Introducing the new and improved home of Women and Girls rugby at WBRFC

The world of women and girls sports is growing and changing rapidly, with the success of The Red Roses and The Lionesses so many more women and girls across the country are looking to get in on the action. Many young girls have sat at home or been part of a record-breaking crowd at Twickenham and seen Sarah Hunter, Marlie Packer and the rest of the England Women's team dominate on a global scale. It is hard to see the passion and success of these women and not want to get involved! As a club, we are working hard to ensure we're keeping up and providing the best space for women and girls to join the rugby community.

Our women and girls section of the club is thriving, we have a great group of women who train together every week, organise lots of socials and have an amazing community bond. Our newly introduced girls' section is growing at a fast rate as we look to ensure WBRFC is as welcoming and inclusive as possible. This is why this season we are relaunching as the Bridgy Bees .

The Bridgy Bee represents all the women and girls at the club uniting us under one name allowing our players to have more ownership over their club. We're choosing to move on from calling ourselves ladies to women as our members feel this represents them better.

Quote from Marie - Head Girl's Coach
"Today, South Notts Sapphires become Bridgy bees! South Notts Sapphires was founded in 2018 when West Bridgford and Nottingham Moderns girls joined forces. The brainchild of Myself and Caroline, our vision was to create a single team which all the local girls can join rather than splitting the few we had over multiple clubs. Whilst this worked well for us then I feel it is now time to belong to one club. The girl's section will be working closely with the Women’s team to create an exciting pathway for any girls wanted to progress.
To belong to one club will enable us to grow by allowing the wider club to feel ownership of the girl's section. My ultimate dream is to have as strong a girl's representation at the club as there are boys in ALL age groups! Girls need to see us, to know that they also belong at our club, this is a place for them. So, let’s shout and scream, girls can play too and West Bridgford is the place for them!"

Quote from Niamh Crabtree - Women's Player and Designer of the new Bridgy Bee logo
"So..to begin with, I pencil sketched a few designs based on some logos the team had liked the features of. Moving forward with the sketch that got the most interest I transferred it to Procreate to start the logo design process.
From here on out it was a rigorous trial and error process where I’d create a base design, show it to the team, get feedback then tweak it, show it to the team, get feedback and tweak it. Making sure to incorporate design elements the team had previously said they like.
One of the biggest issues to overcome was making sure our bee didn’t look too much like a wasp, trying to balance fierceness and ‘bee’ without it looking too much like a wasp or a bumble bee was difficult but altering colours, shapes and sizes and adding feature like the scouting red eye, we got there in the end. Another element I was hoping would reinforce the ‘bee’ was incorporating a honeycomb which has evolved into the shape of the badge, adding a slight wave to mirror aspects of the club badge. Other subtle features of this design that really connect it to the club include using the club's exact shade of red and yellow in the badge and the bee flying west.
When the logo itself was ready I then moved on to the text working on font size and text placement, while consulting with Murray along the way we landed on the ‘badge’ like placement really uniting women and girls and making our mark in the club.
This logo wouldn’t have happened without the efforts and contributions of everyone in the team and we are very excited to see it in action!
Up the Bees!"
