West Bridgford RFC under 13s headed to Sleaford on Sunday 4th May for the NLD cup vs Derby RFC.
The team made it through to the grand final after winning all group and knock out games over the season, including tough battles with Mellish & Ashbourne.
We travelled by coach from Stamford Road as a squad with players, coaches & parents alike, with everyone determined to enjoy their special day out.
After watching some of the other games and soaking up the atmosphere it was our turn to take centre stage with a large crowd cheering on both teams.
The boys played their usual brand of fast, exciting and sometimes “7s” style rugby. Derby admirably stuck at the task but couldn’t cope with Bridgford’s combination of tenacious grafters, relentless tacklers and athletic strike runners.
Final score 40-10 with tries from Gillie Stenhouse, Freddie Barratt, Tivoli McKenzie, William King, Mikey Hollis, Eddie Marshall & Ethan Johnson.
All boys were a credit to Bridgford both on and off the pitch. Big thanks to NLD & Sleaford RFC for organising/hosting what was a fantastic event.
As we turned into Stamford Road on the way back, Country Roads was sung on the coach with gusto to rival any Welsh male voice choir. Celebrations at the Willow Tree continued long into the evening, especially the parents!
The future is bright for WBRFC if this crop of talented boys continue to shine as a squad in the coming years.
