Bridgford 2XV survived a last 15 minute push by an experienced Southwell 2XV.
After a sound start with tries by Alan (the snake) Cullen and the ever improving Olly Loach ably converted by the boot of fly half Phil Reeves Southwell staged a formidable come back with their rather large but well drilled pack. Phill Reeves, using his trusty left boot, kept Southwell pegged back for most of the rest of the first half.
The score moved on in the second half to 32 24 to Bridgford with penalties converted by Phil Reeves as well as a well taken try taken by Mat Ormion returning from a 4 week lay off though injury.
Throughout the second half Bridgford lost tight head prop Will Malevicz with a torn shoulder muscle and then the dancing centre Andy Hadley with a cut to the head. Steve (chuffed) Bentley made a cameo appearance to fill the gap.
With 15 minutes to go the referee pulled up with a torn calf muscle and Graeme Gunn took over for the last period. Southwell scored a real forwards try with a number of pick and drives and eventually overpowered a resolute Bridgford defence.
This match was good preparation for what will be a very tough fixture next week at Kesteven away.
