West Bridgford 2nd team got their new life in Counties 2 off to the perfect start with a BP win over fellow promoted side Sleaford. In a very highly spirited game West Bridgford narrowly got over the line thanks to a try in the last minutes of the game from Harry Watts.
West Bridgford fielded a new look team with 5 league debutants, Alec Hunter, one of the debutants, showing his wonderful skills off and capping the game with 2 fantastic tries off the back of some proper West Bridgy rugby. Other debutants also showed off their skills to their new club in different ways, Ben Smith keeping the pace of the game exactly where we needed at Scrum Half helping to orchestrate play alongside his half back partner Haz Ashby. In the engine room of the pack Academy Graduate Tom Jarvis alongside fellow newcomers Arthus Thommasett and Nick Mouj, smashed rucks and made huge tackles throughout the game. Arthus Winning the hit of the week award from Coach Ryan O’Connor.
Other notable performers were Ben Berridge awarded Man of the Match by Sleaford, was like a bull let out of the shed after a long winter, scoring a fantastic solo try from his own 10 metre line eventually managing to dot down under the posts beating numerous Sleaford players with his power and Pace. Benny Goulding was awarded the running man award for his great effort on the pitch playing both flanker and scrum half.
This wasn’t a vintage Bridgy display with a lot of work Ons for next week’s trip away to Scunthorpe 2nds. But a BP win to start the season is never frowned on.
