Evening all,at the start of the season when 22 wonderful young lads signed up for another season of rugby ,the coaching staff were thrilled if not slightly worried about the sheer numbers coming over to Bridggy ,how on earth can we keep 7 replacements happy each game?,fast forward 17 games later and for 1 yes 1 of the games this season that 'headache' only arose the once,so thank goodness in hindsight for the depth of squad as for the umpteenth time this season a depleted but strong squad of only 15 hardy souls made the trip up North to South Chesterfield ,Tupton to be precise.
From the very warm welcome ,and the Wbrfc club badge on the changing room door(nice touch) Tupton were the perfect hosts, and as for the burgers,well....10/10 there ,I had to sample one of them after a night round Dans parents house watching Saints vs Tigers and sampling The Langtons home brew ,wow is the only word for the rocket fuel that they served up,so the after match carb hit was very much needed, what with a selection headache and the loopy juice headache I was slightly nervous looking at the beasts rumbling into the home teams dressing room ,but as said above a strong Bridggy squad were looking good in the warm ups so all was well in the world ,bad head aside !
Today we were with out Saff,Orin,JT,Noggsy,Eddie,Archie & Twinkle toes those boys alone would be the base on which to build a good team round ,so a few re-jigs ,Jake in at 2 ,Ben to 13,Morgz to 12 we were off, this time thank goodness we dealt with proceedings from the very first kick to the last, instead of standing off Tupton we smashed them quick low and hard, which was needed as they had a few big strong runners who would hurt us if left to get a head of steam up.
A few minutes in and the 2 teams sizing each other up,it was evident that we hadn't played a game for a few weeks, and what with Easter 1/2 term still on in Nottinghamshire the late night PlayStation,X box sessions and the lazy mornings too we were off the pace some what ,but Keegan ,aka Billy Vinopla soon settled any Bridggy nerves with a nice finish after a blistering run off Robbie out wide ,Dan loopy juice Langton grabbing the extra 2 points ,soon it was Matty D's turn to score with a bullocking run from my trusty No3 Matts so quick and strong he can outpace some backs, not bad for a tight head prop ;) again Dan playing as usual a cracking game at 7 slotted the extras,so after the initial sluggish start due to the lads probably not seeing this time in the morning for 2 weeks we got into our rhythm ,Keegan Vinopla crashing through with another strong try,19-0
Dan Moonshine Langton also went over in the corner for 24-0
Ethan ,aka Billy whizz playing at 9 was totally running the show, with quick ball and darting snyping runs pulling their 9&10 all over the place this brought a fresh injection of pace putting Tupton on the back for time and time again.
It has to be said at this stage we lost Robbie to a sore rib cage after a big hit so we re-jiggled the team to play without a full back ,Louis playing out wide was having another fine game with good powerful runs, and after a little altercation on the touch line also showed the bigger Tupton lad ,not to mess with a' Stravino',Elliot was straight in there too ,total Bridggy togetherness, priceless lads ,just priceless,no one messes with any of Elliot's teammates !!!!
,14 warriors got together and this steeled them tighter than ever before,Ben the bullet received a nice pass from Morgz and literally flew through the blue line ahead of him, pace to burn is not the word!,great score Ben but again made by good solid forward work, then releasing the flyers to finish the job.31-0
The pack were playing well today on a boggy pitch saturated in places after last nights deluge ,Chris and Joe Shaw were especially going about their business very well, both locks working intelligently with the front 3 and themselves to secure the ball,Aberdeen Angus who I'm sure grows more every week ,this is probably down to the whole cow he eats pre match, horns and hoofs ,everything was playing a good game at loose head ,glad to see your ankles holding up big man,he did a right good shift, along with Jake and Matty in the front row, well done lads.talking of good forward play Brodders was also having a great game at 6 making huge inroads with some very strong straight line runs, and soon he was on the score sheet too, with a nice score, well done Brods ,38-0
With time running out ,Elliot was the next scorer taking a lovely ball at pace from Ben and sliding in at the corner for 45-0
The last play of the half saw more Bridggy dominance using better pod work at last, then Keegan picked and rampaged his way through the blue line handing off player after player with aplomb ,50-0 and a great solid shift off the lads ,let's take nothing away from Tupton though as they had recently beaten Chesterfield panthers u15's who are a very good team,as I've said time and time again though ,when we click we're pretty darn good ourselves ,today albeit not as fluid ,fast clinical etc was one of those days.
At 1/2 time we brought the lads down to earth somewhat as we weren't happy with some aspects of the play, harsh but fair,we reiterated what was needed ,and also it has to be mentioned that we cleared it with the ref to see if we could carry on as the score was at its maximum,Tupton and the ref said no worries let's carry on ,credit to them and away we went ,still without Robbie 14 lads took to the Somme ,sorry pitch!
A god kick off saw us gather the ball and some nice phases were being played out ,which is what we asked the lads to do at 1/2 time ,Jake our Mr reliable week in week out has played every game this season at 1 ,and always gives 100% every game, today was no exception, the only thing eluding him was a try his commitment and game deserves ,all season he's been there around the breakdowns snyping round but alas no try all season,,like buses you wait an age then 2 come along at once, the 1st of jakes try's was a great powerful run sliding in in at the corner,Dan slotting the extras,57-0,then Morgz playing at 12 today instead of his usual 7 took a lovely pass off tommy and barraged his way through the despairing tackles, not a lot can stop Morgz in full flow and this wasn't going to be one of those times either62-0
Then Jakey boy bagged his brace with another stonking run crashing through 2 lads then seeing open ground ahead of him his little legs going 10 to the dozen ;) and in he went for a lovely score, well done J.67-0
Dan scored another lovely try doing what all good flankers do,seeing ahead reading the game, and from a Tupton scrum there 10 wasn't either ready for the pass or he dropped it,couldn't quite see from where I was ,Dan flew off the scrum and grounded the ball for a smart try,72-0
The last try of the day before me and the ref decided to end the game early, was from man of the match,Keegan after some lovely work in the pack ,K again smashed his way through the Tupton defence to round off a comfortable win,77-0 .
The ref quite rightly ended the game 10 minutes early to give Tupton a reprieve from the Bridggy onslaught.
To recap.....
Credit to Tupton and their merged lads from Sheffield Tigers ,who have joined forces to make a good solid team ,if they stick together and work hard they'll be a good team next season ,and also to the fact their heads never dropped during the game, credit too to Bridggy ,as I said before the game I didn't know what to expect off Tupton,so we needed to boss proceedings from the off,and boss them we did, well done to each and every lad today you all worked hard for each other and at one point only had 14 men on the pitch for 20 odd minutes, but one for all and all for one worked well today
A comprehensive 77-0 score line
Man of the match ,went to Keegan today for a great powerful display at 8 scoring 4 try's and generally playing a great game.
100% committed could have gone to you all today for the work rate you ALL got through, but Jake Incles played a blinder at 2 and scored 2 try's,well done Jake
D%#k of the day ,the award to 'win, went to Tommy not for anything today he did wrong, but for not attending Thursday's training, only for Ethan to say ,"that was tommy on the bus going past " , yes Tommy you've been rumbled by your mates !
Thanks for Tupton for hosting us very well ,and as usual the travelling army of Bridggy parents and brothers cheering the lads on ,and to Alex ,Joes dad for travelling up to Tupton from near to Colsterworth ,Grantham to get big joe to the game, mate it's really appreciated
Yours,as ever in rugby
Paul ,Raff & Jon
