It was decided to organise a tag rugby tournament for Year 3s and Year 4s at West Bridgford Rugby Club in 2010. This age group was targeted, rather than Year 5/6 who have their own tag tournament run by Rushcliffe Schools. The tournament was organised for the beginning of the Summer term and included local schools as well as those visited by WBRFC coaches.

Due to its great success the tournament has become a permanent fixture in the WBRFC calendar.

Year 3/4 Tag Rugby Tournament 2010

In 2010, invitations were sent out for the first tournament. These included the schools that were in the Club’s coaching scheme, as well as the local primary schools.

It took place in April 2010 at West Bridgford Rugby Club, with 8 schools participating.
The eventual winners were Cropwell Bishop Primary School, beating Abbey Road Primary in the final.

Year 3/4 Tag Rugby Tournament 2011

Eight local school teams took part in the second Year 3/4 Tag Rugby Tournament on 20th June 2011.
After winning all their pool matches, the final was between Abbey Road and Gamston Pierrepont Primary Schools, with Gamston Pierrepont taking the honours with a 6-4 victory in a very close and exciting match.
The other schools taking part included Carnarvon, Edwalton and Cropwell Bishop primary schools and West Bridgford Junior school.

Phil Eggleshaw, from Nottingham RFC, helped referee some of the matches as well as present the trophy and medals at the end of the tournament.

The tournament was organised and ran by Caroline Towndrow, Junior Coach and Co-ordinator, for West Bridgford RFC. This event is the culmination of rugby coaching sessions given by West Bridgford RFC and Nottingham RFC after receiving funding from Sport England and Rushcliffe Borough Council.
